Before we went on vacation in May some birds started building a nest on our porch. I told Rusty if eggs were laid before he knocked it down than the nest had to stay. So of course he never knocked it and before long we had eggs. We went on vacation and came back to a poop covered porch. Not long after we got home we had five little hungry baby barn swallows thriving outside our window, and a growing mound of poop. Everyday we would check on the birds and wish for them to hurry up and grow up and leave the nest.
Finally after a few weeks and alot of coaching from me telling them how it was time to move on, our five little babies left the nest! No sooner had the last one flown the coop, I went outside and knocked that thing down! The poop was washed off the porch and I was one happy momma! The next day I was shocked to see another nest going up in its place!!! I never knew birds were like rabbits! So Rusty spends the weekend cleaning nest number two and also cloroxing the porch. Wouldn't you know it two days later there was another nest! I knock it down again. And once again another nest but this time it is on the other pillar. After this I did research to see how to get these things to move on. I learned that they like to live in colonies and have since seen that we are not the only people hosting our feathered Friends! I studied up and learned they dont like owls or snakes! I sent Rusty and Jaden to the store to get a plastic snake. Well Rusty and Jaden return with her two purses(see previous post)and a snake. Now this is no plastic snake. Its a remote control snake! It has red eyes that glow all the time. But its sitting out there and I have seen those birds checking him out. I take great pleasure in making him move around the porch! I dont know that it has stopped them but it has really slowed them down! My next step is an owl!
